Well, another beautiful day in Yeppoon.. and you guessed it.... another restaurant for dinner!
We had been told that there was a fairly new seafood restaurant in town, when your wife is a pescatarian, it seemed a sensible place to go. The Waterfront Seafood Bar and Grill it was then.
We had already checked the menu out the day before and were immediately drawn to their seafood platter, no need for an entree tonight!
We were seated straight away and offered drinks. We opted for a glass of rosé to set the taste buds up for the feast to come.
These guys know their stuff when it comes to seafood, a large bowl of lemon water was provided for the inevitable messy fingers as well as various implements to assist in our eating pleasure. We downed our wine fairly quickly and decided to throw caution to the wind and order a bottle... This time a zesty Marlborough that we knew from experience would compliment the food.
And then it came!! This behemoth of ocean delight.. where do I start?
Oysters Kilpatrick which they had kindly served up without the bacon. Plump and decadent, bathing in a rich tangy sauce, a great introduction. Scallops, (extra points from me for removing the coral... let’s be honest, all that’s good for us stock!), silky and cooked to perfection. Steamed Mussels, just that, nothing required to lift these tasty morsels. Huge tiger prawns shells still on, so fresh I swear I saw one wink at me! Dipped in the seafood sauce took them to another level. Two huge Moreton Bay Bugs slipped out of their shells willingly and enjoyed the delightfully garlicky, pesto sauce served. Finally, the centrepiece! What seafood platter is complete without lobster? This sweet crustacean was cooked to perfection. The meat was delicate and tender...white versus red-always a stunning contrast on the plate, and oh that leg meat!!
Everything was served on a crab salad. One small criticism which the owner took on board. The oysters were served on a bed of rock salt, the juices from the other elements of the platter leeched through the salt and into the crab salad. Maybe serve the salad separately or the oysters as a stand alone perhaps?
This was a generous platter and well worth $120 especially when you taste the quality of the produce.
The wine was working and we shamelessly ordered deserts. A sweet creamy pavlova with fresh fruit became great mates with my wife, I went for some vanilla ice cream served with a shot glass of affigato. I was offered either Bailys or Frangelico as an alcoholic addition....Frangelico won that battle. The combination of the coffee, liquor and ice cream was heaven.
So that was our night..... or was it?
My wife was now on a mission! “Cocktails?” she suggested with raised eyebrows. Who am I to refuse a lady?
Continuing with the coffee theme, I went for a good old fashioned Expresso Martini. Mixed to perfection!
Tropical Breeze was the choice of my good lady, a Malibu and Mango concoction... sublime!
In summary, Great location, attentive staff, excellent service, a seafood platter that would be the envy of other similar establishments and a wine and drinks menu that has something for everyone.
Another amazing night in Yeppoon!
This fantastic establishment offers high quality food all day. The breakfast was so good we had to go back for lunch and we weren’t disappointed. They also have the best Coffee I have had in years.
We stopped here for lunch with our young children on our first visit to Yepoon. Great view, yummy food and great service in a fantastic location for young families.
The best seafood platter to be had in Yeppoon. Oysters, prawns, bugs, mussels, scallops, lobster, octopus, crab, salad. Nothing fried & no chips. Absolutely fantastic!
This is a amazing venue for seafood and meat we found this on our first night in Yeppoon , so good booked for another two nights. Our group had oysters which were just perfect, mains of fish red emperor the catch of day crumbed and serve so large, seafood linguini which was stacked with fresh seafood. The beer was on tap and served cold . Service excellent and our group of three all want to come back to Yeppoon to visit again in a few months and will book here again each night. Value is best I’ve ever had
In Yeppoon for Mothers Day weekend and dined here the last two evenings. Food is the freshest quality and the best value. Can definitely recommend the seafood platter. 10/10 for table service, bar service by the happiest, friendly staff. Looking forward to our next visit.
